Abdullah Abukari was the key witness in a case at the Department of Special Investigation initiated to criminalize high ranking police sergeants. The officer was accused of torture and physically assaulting a client of Somchai Neelapaijit, allegedly guilty of a gun robbery that took place at Narathiwat Rajanagarindra Barracks (Pieleng), Narathiwat Province on January 4, 2004. He was accused of torture and was forced to confess to the allegations The torture case is under investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). Abdullah Abugari disappeared while returning from a tea shop not far from his home in Rangae district Narathiwat Province on the night of December 11, 2009
