Subject: Report Release and Press Conference: Thai NGOs release alternative reports submitted to the UN Committee against Torture
The Convention against Torture, and Other Cruel, Inhumane, Degrading Treatment or Punishment (the Convention against Torture) has entry into force in Thailand since 1 November 2007. The initial state reports of Thailand submitted to the UN Committee against Torture (the Committee) is scheduled to be reviewed by the Committee on 30 April and 1 May 2014. On this occasion, non-government organizations have submitted alternative reports (shadow reports) to assist the Committee in assessing the implementation of the provisions of the Convention against Torture as well as providing recommendations need to be taken with a view to improve the human rights situation in the country.
Amnesty International Thailand (AI Thailand), Cross Cultural Foundation (CrCF), and Justice for Peace Foundation (JPF) would like to invite you to attend the Report Release and Press Conference: Thai NGOs release alternative reports submitted to the UN Committee against Torture which will include findings and recommendations related to the Thai Government’s implementation of the Convention against Torture in order to raise public awareness on torture as a serious human rights violation and the efforts to prevent torture and other ill-treatment in Thailand.
