Oct 1, 2008Former prime minister Samak Sundaravej has resigned the leadership of the people Power Party (PPP). The resignation letter was dated on 26 Sep 2008. On 9 Sep 2008, Mr. Samak was disqualified from the office of prime minister by the Constitution Court for violating the charter by receiving payments for hosting television cooking shows. The verdict was also criticized over double standard and rule of law.

He was arrested on an insurrection charge was accused of leading PAD supporters in blocking Mittraphan Road in Nakhon-Ratchasima on the day PAD demonstrators in Bangkok stormed and accupied Government House. He is now detained at the Bangkok Center Prison in Chatuchak District

Oct 6, 2008 (Mon) NightPAD announced and moved to seal the Parliament house attempting to stop the policy statement session schedule the first day tomorrow. The Parliament house will hold the policy statement session on 7-8-9 October 2008.

6.15 amOn the morning of Tuesday 7th October 2008, at around 6.15 am, there was police troops under Metropolitan Police Division 1 of 500 officers started to use tear gas against PAD protesters who sealed off parliament to prevent the government from announcing its policy. There were more than 1,500 protesters went to seal the Parliament since the night of 6 Oct 2008. The protesters sent out the massage that Somchai’s government has no legitimacy to govern the country due to two reasons; 1. President of Parliament’s house will propose the amendment of Constitution 2. Somchai’ s Government is an nominee of Thaksin, a former PM. This morning there were more than 50 injured; 3 serious injured. One of injured person, his right leg was damaged badly and would be cut off. 11.00 amMetropolitan Police office released the statement and presented to the press that the cabinet has the duty to declare the policy statement today accordingly to Constitution 2007 art. 176, however, PAD protestors have sealed the entrance and exit on the road surrounding the Parliament house. The seal of the road, is to obstruct all MPs who wanted to join the Parliament session, is an act in obstructing the parliament to declare the policy statement is illegal. However, Metropolitan Police would like to make some understanding and get the cooperation from the protestors. They should base their involvement in their political acts more wisely for the sake of national security
About the injured persons“Judging from wounds of the victims we saw in the operation room, we believed that the wounds did not cause by tear gas,” Wanchai said. The doctors said the wounds were caused by powerful explosives which can destroy tissues and bones.
Despite police insisted of using tear gas, several photos showed one protester lost his leg and another protester lost his foot. Wanchai said a total of 47 people received treatment at the hospital. Most of them had wounds on the bodies.
Santi Larnwong, 22, said he suffered several wounds on his body but will continue joining protests against the government.

13.00Later also, Pol Sgt Maj Taweep Klanniam and another policeman were pierced by sharp iron bars during police clash with People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) protesters. The clash took place at around 1 pm. The two policemen were rushed to the Phramongkutklao Hospital, which now declares that both are already in safe conditions.
14.00Criminal court read the court decision to detain Maj Gen. Jamrong Srimuang , one of PAD leaders. Maj. Gen. Jamrong did not submit the bail motion. He is now detained at the Bangkok Center Prison in Chatuchak District
10.30Parliament did not have enough votes to pass the Policy statement declaration. It said that the Government and the cabinet have to declare the Policy within 15 days otherwise “dissolve”. However, finally at around 12.15 the parliament approved Somchai’s policy statement by 320 votes of MP.
15.00MP got locked up as they could not leave the Parliament house. The electricity was cut off since in the morning even during the cabinet’s policy statement session was held in the morning from 9.00 am.
AfternoonGen. Chavalit resigned from Somchai’s Government. The resignation letter submitted to PM Somchai since in the morning before the Parliament session started. It was disclosed that Gen. Chavalit was assigned to dissolve the PAD protesters attempted to seal Parliament House by the cabinet in the night by the cabinet. The Parliament house will hold the policy statement session on 7-8-9 October 2008. Deputy Prime Minister Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh tenders his resignation on Tuesday to take responsibility on police’s use of forces and tear gas on anti-government protesters. Gen Chavalit is deputy prime minister in charge of security. Police fired tear gas and used forces to disperse the protesters who blocked and surrounded the Parliament on Tuesday morning. “We heard that there will be a group of people will enter the Parliament house. The police do their duty to secure and prevent the violence at the parliament house. We are now in cooperation with all concerned parties. WE could not do it alone.We will not declare the Emergency situation and the police will be responsible agent in the operation to secure the situation….”
